The 1964's year Tokyo Olympic Marathon was truly the birth
place of modern marathon running when Abebe Bekela majestically
retained the gold medal he first won in Rome 4 years earlier
- running the Tokyo course in a World best of 2 hours 12
minutes 11 seconds. Today, Tokyo has now joined the ranks
of the super marathons, up there with London and New York,
as 90,000 runners applied for the 35,000 places available.
The Tokyo Marathon 2008 is the Tokyo's largest scale city
marathon which features a marathon race with approximately
25,000 participants and a 10 kilometer race with approximately
5000 participants of both genders, including wheelchair
users, and visually and mentally impaired athletes.

Imperial Palace
The Edo Castle, formerly the Tokugawa family¡¯s residence,
was opened in the Meiji Restoration and later renamed
as the Imperial Palace. The Nijubashi bridge in
front of the main entrance is famous.

Ginza 4-chome Intersection
The distinctive architecture of Ginza surrounds
the intersection of Chuo-Dori St. and Harumi-Dori
St. The perfect place to start Ginza walk.

Tokyo Station
Built in 1914 in the Renaissance style using 8.9
million pieces of red brick, the station is a major
hub of Japan¡¯s railway networks and operates an
art museum on its 2nd floor.

Built in 1958, the broadcasting tower is 333m tall.

Asakusa Kaminarimon Gate
The oldest ternple in Tokyo is said to have been
built in 628. The Grand Kaminarimon Gate with a
large lantern is a landmark.

capable of finishing the race within 2 hours 10 minutes
using wheelchairs designed for racing.

the race within 1 hour 30 minutes.
2-2) Wheel Chair: 25 male and female runners using wheelchairs
designed for racing capable of finishing the race within
60 minutes.
2-3) Special Race

ii) 50 pairs of male and female visually impaired runners
with companions.
iii) 100 male and female intellectually impaired runners.
iv) 50 male and female "transplant" runners.
