Osaka Foundation of International Exchange
One of Osaka's major challenges in the future is to perpetuate its development as an open, cosmopolitan metropolis which derives its dynamism from an extensive range of international exchange activities from economics to culture. In doing so, it is important to ensure that the prefecture maintains its charm in the eyes of people both at home and abroad.
The Osaka Foundation of International Exchange was founded on January 25, 1989 by the Governor of Osaka Prefecture, with the support of a wide range of concerned parties.
The objectives of the Foundation are to promote the internationalization of Osaka, support and assist exchange activities of the people of Osaka, contribute to the international community by improving services for foreign students, and to foster development in Osaka
Education in international understanding is becoming part of the daily lives of young people. This type of education is already being introduced into the general studies at elementary and junior high schools, and will be offered at some high schools starting in the next school year. This education promotes understanding of the different cultures and customs around the world, teaches a respect for differences, and fosters the disposition and capacity to live together with people from other countries.
OFIX provides schools with consultation services related to education in international understanding and makes arrangements for international students and trainees to be dispatched to educational facilities in Osaka.
In addition to the dispatching of international students and trainees, OFIX hopes to expand its activities to include arrangements for participation in the activities of the Japan International Cooperation Agency, and to act as a liaison between schools and international NGOs and similar organizations that are working in the Osaka Prefecture area.
