Tokyo Disneyland is a popular and high volume theme park, opened in 1983, and built by the famed Walt Disney Imagineering in the style of the original Disneyland in California. (However, Tokyo Disneyland is the only Disney Park not owned by the Walt Disney Company. and the Magic Kingdom in Florida.)
Tokyo Disneyland is a 115 acre (466,535 m2) theme park at the Tokyo Disney Resort located in Urayasu, Chiba, Japan, near Tokyo. The park was constructed by Walt Disney Imagineering in the same style as Disneyland in California and the Magic Kingdom in Florida. It is owned by The Oriental Land Company, which licenses the theme from The Walt Disney Company. It, along with its companion park, Tokyo DisneySea, are the only Disney parks not owned by The Walt Disney Company.
Tokyo Disneyland has seven themed areas, including the classic four "lands" from Disneyland California's Magic Kingdom: Fantasyland, Tomorrow land, Adventure land, Western land (called Frontier land in California), and Critter Country and Mickey's Toon Town, also familiar from Disneyland California. Tokyo Disneyland also has a sister theme park, Tokyo DisneySea, and several hotels. The park is noted for its huge open spaces to accommodate the massive crowds the park receives on even moderate attendance days - Tokyo Disneyland was, up until seven years ago, the single most visited theme park in the world. Its sister Tokyo DisneySea was the fourth most visited theme park in the world upon opening.
Unlike its sister parks, Tokyo Disneyland does not have a railroad encircling it. There is, however, an attraction in Adventure land called the Western River Railroad, but it cannot be used to travel from one area of the park to another; rather it makes a scenic round-trip excursion. Adventure land in Tokyo Disneyland contains a New Orleans section, which makes the version a combination of New Orleans Square and Adventure land in California.
Tokyo Disneyland will celebrate the 25th Anniversary of its grand opening in 2008.
Tip: The four-station Disney Resort Line monorail connects Maihama Station to Tokyo Disneyland, Tokyo Disneysea and Tokyo Bay NK Hall plus the resort hotels. The fare is 200/100 for adults/children and the Passnet stored value card can be used. Note that, if going to Disneyland, it's probably easier and faster to just walk from the station.
