If you move while in Japan, call 116 as soon as you can to make an appointment for reinstallation. There is an installation charge that varies depending on the work required in addition to the 5percent consumption tax. These charges will be included on the next monthly bill. You phone number may remain the same, or it may change depending on where you move. After you get a new phone number, you can have your new number announced by a recorded message when a call is made to your old number.
You can have NTT hold your telephone rights for up to five years without being billed for the monthly exchange line charge. However, you will not be able to keep your previous telephone number when it is reconnected unless you pay the monthly exchange line charge. When you do not need your telephone line anymore you can give your telephone rights away or sell them.
